Upcycled Vintage Military Wool Shirt – Hand-stitched Textile Patches

This vintage military shirt in fine wool has been carefully reworked by hand in my studio.

Its original utilitarian structure — straight cut, flap pockets, earthy olive tone — is preserved, while selected areas have been enhanced with hand-applied textile patches. A floral antique cotton fragment and soft blue reclaimed fabric create a quiet yet distinctive focal point on the front, adding depth and subtle contrast.

Each patch is intentionally placed and secured using slow stitching techniques inspired by visible mending and Japanese boro aesthetics. The handwork remains perceptible — not hidden — celebrating repair, transformation and time.

The fine wool gives the garment a soft yet structured presence, making it ideal as a light jacket or layered overshirt. The contrast between military sobriety and delicate textile fragments creates a balanced, poetic tension.
